The Sesnon wildfire is burning in the west part of the San Fernando Valley, including parts of Porter Ranch, Granada Hills and Chatsworth. That's just over one valley from where we live, which is a bit unsettling. We're still 20 miles away from any of the flames, and it doesn't look like the fire is burning toward us, but they've evacuated a fairly large area and firefighters are concerned that if the winds blow in a particular way this fire could realistically burn all the way to the Pacific Ocean (toward Malibu). That would truly be tragic, as there are a lot of homes in that path.
We're safe now, and we're far enough from the flames that we'll have plenty of warning if things start burning in our direction, but as the fire burned yesterday the dark plume of smoke working through the valley made it look and feel like Hell was rolling into town. I'll try to update the blog if anything changes.
