Leadership Lessons

A few weeks ago when my parents were in town, we took Kate with us to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. We'd been wanting to visit the Library since we moved to this area (you can see the Reagan Library from our house) and we figured that Kate was now finally old enough to appreciate what the Library has to offer -- after all, she was 4 months old.

We hoped that our field trip might inspire her in one of several ways:

1. She might be fascinated by the large section of the Berlin Wall on display in the Library, become inspired by President Reagan's contributions in ending the Cold War, and choose to pursue a career in international politics and diplomacy.

2. She could be dazzled by the temporary exhibit of the clothing of First Lady Nancy Reagan, and develop a budding interest in clothing that could one day lead to her becoming the next great American fashion designer.

3. She could be overcome by the majesty of the Boeing 707 Air Force One used by President Reagan, now displayed inside the massive hangar-like hall of the Library, fueling a passion for aviation on her way to becoming a modern Amelia Earhart.

4. She could read the daily entries of President Reagan's diaries which were recently donated to the Library by Mrs. Reagan, planting in her soul the love of writing which one day could lead to her creation of a critically-acclaimed memoir.

She just looked at everything, taking it all in, with a far off look in her eye (breaking concentration only long enough to flirt shamelessly with the aging security guard).

Finally, toward the end of the tour she paused, looked at me thoughtfully and proceeded to fill her diaper. Now that's what I call "trickle-down" economics.

Ah, the ubiquitous bib -- now there's a fashion statement.

where is the valley did you move to? Teresa's family is all from Simi and her sister is the event coordinator for the RR Library.
